Just over 12 months ago, Lee noticed something was wrong. “All of a sudden, everything felt like a struggle. My heart rate would elevate, and I began to hit the wall a lot sooner than expected,” Lee recalls.
After undergoing multiple tests and heart exams, doctors discovered that Lee’s heart had changed shape slightly, pressing on a vein. While the condition wasn’t life-threatening, it meant he couldn’t push as hard as he wanted to during runs.
This diagnosis forced Lee to re-evaluate his training and start from scratch. “It was tough to accept, but I knew I had to rebuild my fitness step by step,” he says.
Rebuilding from Scratch: A New Approach to Training
Lee stripped everything back and implemented new strategies to regain his fitness. He focused on building a solid base, slowing down his runs, and prioritizing consistency over intensity.
“Cheltenham Running Club has been instrumental in my recovery,” Lee shares. “The training methods, the support from other members, and the social aspect of the club kept me motivated and on track.”
With the guidance of the club’s structured programs, Lee was able to rebuild his endurance and confidence. He credits the interval sessions, group runs, and advice from coaches for helping him get back to where he wanted to be.
