The short answer
You do not need to be fast to join a running club in Cheltenham. The important thing is choosing the right session, pace group and level of support. CRWC uses pace groups and coached sessions so runners can make a sensible start rather than guess where they fit.
It is normal to worry about pace
Many people who run on their own wonder whether everyone else will be faster, whether they will hold people up, or whether they need to arrive already confident. Those are sensible questions. A good club should help you understand the session before you turn up.
How to choose the right Cheltenham running club session
CRWC has a range of lunchtime, evening and weekend sessions, but not every session is the right fit for every runner. Lunchtime runs and most Adventure Runs are not the default beginner option. If you are new to group running, returning after time away, or not yet able to run continuously for around 30 minutes, start with the route designed for your stage.
If you are already running
If you can run continuously and want more structure, variety or company, start with the New Runner Trial Options page. Check the current running schedule before attending because times, locations and arrangements can change.
If you are starting from scratch
If you are not yet running continuously for around 30 minutes, use the Beginners Three-Week Trial. That is a better starting point than forcing yourself into a session not designed for you.
What if I want more individual support?
Premium is not only for faster runners. It may be the best starting route if extra reassurance would help you settle in. The Head Coach can help you choose the right group and sessions, and Premium includes a coaching app with session plans that can support group sessions and solo runs.
The choice is based on the level of support you want, not your speed. Compare the options on the New Runner Trial Options page.
What to look for when comparing clubs
- Which sessions are suitable for my current level?
- How are pace groups organised?
- Who can I ask if I am unsure where I fit?
- Can I try it before a longer commitment?
- Does the club make it easy to check current times and locations?
A calm first step
Read the New Runner Trial Options page and check the current running schedule. You can then choose a suitable next step with a clearer idea of what to expect.
